The University of Toronto has been honoured as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for the tenth time.

Canada’s Top 100 Employers are chosen annually by Mediacorp Canada Inc. in a “national competition to determine which employers lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces for their employees.”

Winners were announced on November 7, 2016 in , published by The Globe and Mail.

According to Richard Yerema, Managing Editor at Mediacorp Canada Inc., “To secure a place on a list like Canada’s Top 100 Employers an employer has to do everything well – it’s like being a hockey player who excels at both defence and offence, or an athlete who wins a triathlon.”

ֱ made the top 100 list for several reasons (see scorecard below), including:

  • the university's support for families – with generous maternity and parental leave top-up payments, available to mothers, fathers and adoptive parents.
  • encouraging employees to save for the future, with generous contributions to a defined benefit pension plan and offers retirement planning assistance as well as phased-in work options.
  • in recognition of its historic and important role in the development of Canada's largest urban region, the university's long-term "Towards 2030 Plan" incorporates a strategy to work closely with local public, private and non-profit organizations to plan and help make the region "a better place in which to live, work and prosper".
